About

FicHub is a growing set of accessibility tools for reading (and eventually finding) fanfiction and original works. FicHub can be used to turn fics into more standardized formats. After entering a URL and clicking Export, basic fic metadata and a link to download as EPUB will appear. Additionally, links to generate and download the work as MOBI, PDF, or Zipped HTML will show.

We currently recommend the EPUB format, as many EPUB readers have options to change font, font size, colors, and other options to enhance readability. This includes the option to change to a dyslexia friendly font. If you are interested in using an alternate export format with special fonts or styling please let us know.

Supported Sites

Partial support (or not tested recently):

Bookmarklet

A bookmarklet is a small piece of code that can be saved as a bookmark to provide extra functionality when clicked. While viewing a fic, click the FicHub bookmarklet to be navigated to FicHub and automatically export the fic you were just looking at. You may be able drag the following link to your bookmarks, or right click it to save as a bookmark: Export on FicHub.

Alternatively, copy and paste the following code as the destination of a new bookmark:

javascript:location.href='https://fichub.net/?b=1&q='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)

If you run into issues

In order to be a good citizen of the web, FicHub caches content and throttles the request rate on upstream sources. This means that some fics may take a while to export. Better reporting of the current state of an export is planned -- but until then, please give it some time before trying to re-export a fic if you encounter an issue.

Content may be stale at times, but an automated background task should catch all updates eventually. If a fic is stale and you'd like to request it to be refetched immediately, please ask in the discord for now. A more integrated or automated refresh request feature is planned.

Eventually FicHub may grow other features such as centralized reading lists, recommendations, or story search. The current bookmarklet may be extended into an entire browser extension for ease of use. If you're interested in any extended features, please feel free to provide feedback.

Downstream tools, API, open source

If you have an idea for a tool built on top of FicHub feel free to get in touch. We are friendly. The API is not currently solid, but effort could be put towards that if someone wants a stable interface. FicHub is (partially) open source and currently hosted on github/FicHub. There is some backlog cleaning up and releasing the other components -- please get in contact if them being released sooner rather than later is important to you.
